Regular readers know that the Captain’s Kitchen has won the crown for the World’s Best Shrimpburger for the last three years, an unprecedented feat. There are many reasons for the Captain’s Kitchen’s ascendancy, and you can read the details of their 2019 triumph here.
One key to the Captain’s Kitchen’s continuing success is that they never rest on their laurels. There’s always something new. For the Captain’s Kitchen’s triumph in 2020, he introduced a new sauce.
You can see some in those two little plastic containters, just above the grouper sandwich, below the Wubbanub, and beside the onion rings.
This is a great sauce. Although Klechner’s cocktail sauce and a tartar sauce are available, along with a range of condiments, customers go through 30 bottles of the sauce each day. That converts to about 700 or so of those little plastic things. And it’s not a sauce for shrimpburgers only. It goes with all of the seafood on their menu, and with everything else, for that matter. It is excellent for french fries and onion rings. I’d try it on a burger. This is a sauce you can use regularly at home.
Captain Marty Muns graciously shared his recipe with this Blog. Actually, he shares it with all of his regular customers. Once you have the recipe, you can and you certainly will make the sauce at home. That’ll take some of the pressure off Captain Muns, whose life would easier if he only had to make, say, 10 bottles of the sauce each day. The recipe is simple, straightforward, and brilliant:
Add to 3 parts Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
One part Sriracha Sauce
There you have a wonderful sauce. You can, of course, experiment with the ratio to suit your own particular taste. This is a sauce that will brighten your life. And if you take a bottle or three to the beach with you it will help free up Captain Muns to come up with additional improvements to the World’s Best Shrimpburger. Give it a try.
