If you’re in Fort Myers, Florida, you’ll probably want an ice cream cone. Even if you don’t realize you want one, if your’e lucky enough to be with Nancy, she might well want one and that will remind you that you need ice cream. That’s not the reason I married her, it’s just one of the benefits, a bit of lagniappe.
On Saturday Nancy and I were effectively hemmed in by the street closures for the Edison Light Festival, so we didn’t venture to the beaches. We strolled out of our hotel and immediately encountered a group of people dressed and coiffed as if they’d stepped out of an Agatha Christie mystery. We looked around for cameras, but saw none. As we walked we saw costumed groups everywhere. We finally learned that it was a city-wide CluedUpp game, a sort of virtual murder mystery Pokemon hunt. There were people in CSI garb and all manner of other costumes, some apparently meant as red herrings.

Watching people in costume is hard work, and Nancy and I eventually needed a boost. There, right before our eyes, was Scoops on First. In we went.
Nancy ordered a cookies and cream,

and I ordered a chocolate chip cookie dough, which was beyond my power, or at least my inclination, to photograph and eat at the same time. Nancy seemed to like hers, and I was very pleased with mine. The ice cream was rich and there was lots of cookie dough, almost as much as at Bruster’s.
Scoops on First offers excellent ice cream. What else can I say? If you’re in Fort Myers and feel like eating an ice cream cone … Let me change that. When you’re in Fort Myers and feel like an eating an ice cream cone, head to Scoops.

I’ve been to Love Boat Ice Cream in Fort Myers, which was recommended by Paula Haney, owner of Hoosier Mama Pie, and I liked it a lot, from what I remember. I’ve also read about Best Ice Cream in Fort Myers, but not Scoops. Might have to look into it. I’m pretty sure there was a Scoops in Viera, Florida, but I don’t know if it was part of a chain.
