Two Breakfasts on the Cincinnati Roadfood Crawl: The Cheesecakery and Everything Bagels

With the first full day of the Cincinati Road Food Crawl under my belly — or hanging over it, Friday began at the Cheesecakery at 4825 Whetsel Avenue.

As the name indicates, they sell cheesecakes and also coffee and lattes and the like. Few people want to start their day by eating a whole cheesecake, and the few who do aren’t likely to admit it, so the Cheesecakery offers cupcake-sized cheesecakes as well as other goodies. They look great, don’t they? It’s like being at a party.

I moved quickly to get a cup of coffee (a very good cup) and, since this was a food crawl, something to go with it. My choice was complicated by my lack of enthusiasm for cheesecakes. I can usually find a way, however. Remembering the dessert at Swampwater, I chose the cinnamon roll bread pudding and caramel sauce.

As it was held for display in the cooler with the cheesecakes, the bread pudding naturally arrived cold, or at least too cold for the sauce to flow. I had a bit and shared one or two bites, but most of it went into the car to be heated by the sun for the rest of the day. It tasted very good, with cinnamon, caramel, and butter. I highly recommend it.

I shunned all offers to share others’ cheesecakes, but I did succumb to a taste of a lemon blueberry crumb bar.

It was delicious — the crumb topping and the blueberry with lemon. This was a winner. Various other Roadfood crawlers were trying and sharing the various cheesecakes. The most striking order to me was Danny’s Latte Flight.

The Cheesecakery offers latte flights with four flavors, the flavors changing every month. I’m not sure what these flavors were. I’m a black coffee person, dark roast and with hickory when I can get it, but it seems like a fun idea, and the Cheesecakery is a great choice for lots of festive events.

Breakfast on the last full day of the Cincinnati Roadfood Crawl was at Everything Bagels at 725 Eastgate S Drive.

It’s a pleasant and spaciousplace, with very prompt and friendly service. They knew we were coming and actually reserved some tables for us, which was nice. Also touching is the table is set aside to remind os of the service members we’ve lost.

I arrived on the early side and looked over their wide selection of bagels.

I chose a salt bagel since I hadn’t had one in ages, and added sausage, egg, and cheese.

The bagel was great and the sausage egg and cheese proved a great selection. It’s the breakfast combination I ask for more than any other whether on a bagel, biscuit, or bread. Everything Bagel offers the usual variations of cream cheese, although I was disappointed not to see an olive cream cheese to offer to someone who’d complained once or twice — ok, 20 times — about the cream cheese on Herb and Thelma’s olive burgers. I gave some thought to a Reuben bagel, again since I’d never had one on a bagel, but it was going to be a long day of eating. I see I didn’t mention the coffee. I should have. It was a good cup, black, no sugar.

I was very pleased with Everything Bagels — the quality of the bagels, the filling, the setting, and the phenomenal service. I’m happy to recommend it.

  1. “I’m a black coffee person, dark roast and with hickory when I can get it”

I’m assuming you meant chicory, but hickory is an intriguing addition too!
