Rituals Coffee, Kittian Village, St. Kitts

On our last morning at the Marriott Beach Club in St. Kitts, we decided to stroll down to Rituals Coffee House for the girls’ occasional doughnut breakfast, and to try the coffee. Our new friends from Wilmington, NC, Scott and Laura, had praised the coffee and espresso, and we’d used up the coffee in our villa.

The first thing you notice about Rituals is that the sign has the same color and font of a major US chain.

Starbucks should consider it a compliment. Both Liza and I agreed that the coffee at Rituals is better than the coffee at Starbucks. But how about the doughnuts? Ella and Lily’s doughnut outings are either to the Starbucks in our Northwest DC neighborhood or to the Dunkin’ Donuts in Lusby, Maryland. Ella, on mature consideration, pronounced the Rituals’ doughnuts better than Starbucks’ pastries, but not as good as the chocolate-filled doughnuts at Dunkin’ Donuts.

Lilly was too occupied to comment.

Rituals also offers an array of other goodies as well as breakfast sandwiches on bread, bagels, and paninis. And they were making French toast, although it’s not on the posted menu. Maybe next trip I’ll try some. But for now, the coffee is the big draw for me. “Better than Starbucks” is pretty darn good. If you’re in Basseterre, there’s another Rituals Coffee there. Definitely try Rituals if you get to St. Kitts.
